An Appeal for Aid and Support for the people of Ukraine

Over the years we have supplied Teachers to schools in Ukraine and are in touch with one of our Head Teachers based in Kyiv, who is pleading with contacts to provide support in any way possible. The support from the West is what is keeping their morale going. This whole situation is heart breaking so we will support in the only way we can.

Firstly we have forged an alliance with individuals, organised charities who are collecting any donations for people fleeing Ukraine. These donations will be either driven to the borders or kept at designated collection points.

We as a company can help by collecting these donations from schools and delivering to our alliances/check points on your behalf. If any schools would like to volunteer an area for donations to be received for refugees please do let us know. In addition to this Worldwide Teaching will donate toiletries which are some of the many things needed.

We would ask that if anyone can afford to donate that the following items are very much needed:

Blankets, bedclothes, towels, sleeping bags (clean); dressings, bandages-factory packed; warm socks, underwear -male, female, child (new); toiletries i.e. soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, antiseptic hand gels/sprays etc; toilet roll and paper towels, nappies, sanitary towels, wet wipes; paper plates, cups, single-use cutlery etc; ready to eat canned food (not requiring heating or further cooking or tin opener); dry food i.e. fruits, nuts, crackers, cornflakes, rice crackers; bottled water, juices, and other beverages.

If you would like for us to arrange collection of your donations please do not hesitate to get in touch. Its times like this when communities demonstrate their amazing acts of kindness which has been demonstrated across the country and parts of the world this past week.

Maggie Oliver Foundation

At Worldwide Teaching and Cover People, we are proud to support the Maggie Oliver Foundation. After researching the work that Maggie and her team of Trustees and Ambassadors do, our Managing Director Karla was excited to discuss how she personally, and as a Company, can help.

Most of us would have heard of Maggie Oliver, best known as the Detective-turned-whistle-blower who resigned from Greater Manchester Police in late 2012 to expose the now-infamous 'Rochdale Grooming Scandal'. Her ability to connect with people and encourage them to speak out against injustice, paired with her grit and determination to expose corruption, is deeply inspiring. Her actions and the circumstances that surrounded them eventually led to the multi-award-winning dramatisation of the case: Three Girls (BBC One), which brought some of the issues to public attention for the first time. Maggie was also a key contributor to The Betrayed Girls documentary (BBC One).

Maggie’s relationship with the victims of child grooming continues to this day; she persistently fights for justice on behalf of survivors across the UKThe Maggie Oliver Foundation draws attention to the tragedy of child sexual abuse on a local and national scale, highlighting the failures of the authorities in addressing the problem at different levels. In many cases, survivors often feel abandoned and isolated; they do not trust the police, the criminal justice system, and other statutory agencies, not knowing who to approach for help. There is a long way to go.

Recent months have had a detrimental effect on those suffering; the Maggie Oliver Foundation and their phone lines have been instrumental in offering much-needed support. While the foundation has had phenomenal success, there is still much more to do, and with an overwhelming number of calls coming in, they are in desperate need of more people and resources.

Worldwide Teaching and Cover People will donate £1 for every day booked through us to the foundation. We will deduct this from our margins, NOT add it to the school charge rates. Payments will be monthly to assist in the foundation's monthly outgoings. We aim to update our clients with our contributions and how they have benefitted the foundation during that month. The Maggie Oliver Foundation is an incredibly inspiring Charity to support; we are eager to see the remarkable work they do in the future as they evolve and increase their network of support. The stories that victims of child abuse share are heart-breaking and close to home; we encourage you to join us in supporting the Maggie Oliver Foundation and the life-changing work they do.

Maggie's work has been widely recognised and she has recently been awarded Pride of Manchester! Please visit their website for more information https://www.themaggieoliverfoundation.com/.

Thank you for taking the time to read this; together, we can work for the greater good.

DBS Update Service

What is the DBS Update Service?

The DBS Update Service is available for standard and enhanced checks and is an annual online subscription. The DBS update service allows anyone with a DBS check to keep their certificates up to date for themselves and employers without the need to reapply with each agency or a new job. With your permission, employers can now check the validity of your certificate for you. As long as you keep up to date with your annual payments your DBS checks have no official expiration date.

Do I need to sign up for the DBS Update Service?

Employers would strongly recommend you do as it is simple and cost-effective to do so. The online Update Service means that employers can log on to check candidates’ certificates, saving candidates time and money. For Supply who have a DBS on the update service and who have no changes to their circumstances, this is the best thing to do. As long as you maintain your annual £13 fee, you will only need to do a new DBS check if an employer requests so or if your circumstances change, and we are instructed when checking your DBS that you need to apply for a new one. This is normally if something has been added. If you do get a new DBS and have paid for the update service then you will be able to add/remove certificates.

Signing up to the DBS Update Service (Be careful not to miss the deadline)

Once you have your DBS check, you will need your certificate number to register for the service. This must be done within 30 days of the certificate being issued. Once you have registered you will then receive login details so you can manage your account, including updating payment details and personal information, and of course, view your certificate details. Your subscription will last for one year. Most people opt for automatic renew which will see £13 deducted from your credit or debit card automatically every year. Please be careful when choosing this option to update payment details if you change the card you have registered; since it is an annual subscription, you can get caught out. We try to remind candidates when it is due but ultimately, it is your responsibility.

Some candidates choose not to have their subscription automatically renewed. In this case, you can update yourself up to 30 days before it is due to end. The DBS will send you a reminder but in some cases, this can land in your junk folder and can be missed. Again, we would usually also send reminders but ultimately, this is your responsibility. Failure to renew would result in costs for a new DBS.
